Windows: now check your PC’s compatibility with Direct Storage

This is a major new step in the world of PC Gaming at Microsoft. After implementing its Xbox ecosystem to replace an often problematic Microsoft Store, the Redmond company is once again improving Windows 10/11’s Xbox Game Bar.
It’s a small step for Microsoft…
The heart of this update checks if your gaming beast is compatible with DirectStorage. This tool optimizes communication between a game’s storage system and the graphics card running it. Announced three years ago now, the first game to really benefit from it would be Forspoken.
Microsoft estimates that with DirectStorage, CPU overhead can be reduced by 20-40%. This technology will mainly influence loading times and the speed at which an HDD or SSD will react in game as demonstrated in the video below. When used with an NVME 2.0 SSD, Forspoken would load in just 1.9 seconds. A technology that appears effective at first sight and is just waiting for our machines to put it to the test!
The verification tool is available today, via Xbox Game Bar. To access it, you must be part of the Insider program. Don’t panic, nothing too complicated! You have to register for the program via the Windows settings and then download the application Xbox Insider Hub through the Microsoft Store. Once installed, click on the preview tab and select the Windows Gaming preview to verify that you are registered. Then go back to the main page and click on “get updates”. This should then update the Xbox Game Bar app and allow you to complete the check.
