With X-Gate, Solid State Logic offers a Gate plug-in inspired by its own digital broadcast consoles. It has a variable waveform graph, Mid-Side processing options, but also the following features:
- Duck mode, which enables external sidechain triggered background noise suppression. It can be combined with M/S processing to focus the stereo field of surrounding audio during dialogue or vocal solos.
- In M/S mode, X-Gate allows the suppression of background noise while leaving the central signal intact (SSL recommends it on drum tracks).
- Multiple Lookahead modes, allowing for improved plug-in response with minimal latency
- Attack, sustain and release controls inspired by the dynamics module controls of SSL consoles
X-Gate is available on Mac (Intel and M1) and Windows, in AU, VST2/3 and AAX formats. Currently at an introductory price of $89 instead of $129, until July 28, it is also included in the SSL Complete subscription for $14.99 per month. All information can be found on the SSL website.
